Sitting up with Dad late tonight. I remember a few things in my childhood about Dad that are good. Here is one
Late one fall, we were unloading corn silage (whole corn plants chopped into small pieces) in a pile on the ground, since the corn silo was full. It was unloaded from a wagon that had a chain conveyer on the bottom to slide the silage out of the trailer. The silage would come out in chunks. Brian and I used to like to run just behind the trailer while it was unloading and try not get hit by the corn silage.
Brain was about 4 years old when we were running behind the silage trailer. The chain conveyer was moving but the corn silage hanging out the trailer got larger and larger, until it broke free. I got away but looked back to just seeing Brian’s two feet sticking out of the corn pile. I can still see, in my mind, Dad running over, grabbing his two feet and yanking him out of the pile. I remember how fast he moved and calm he was.
Bare with me, trying to see if putting some good memories on paper, will help me to get through this difficult time
Dad
